The Purpose and Principles of Independent Advocacy (2 taught days) Unit 301

This module explores what independent advocacy is and what it does. When studying this, you will learn about the purpose of advocacy, why it exists and its history. You will also learn about different advocacy models that have emerged in the UK.

This module establishes the underpinning principles of independent advocacy and you will learn how these principles shape and define advocacy.

You should complete this module if you want to understand what advocacy is or want to learn more about independent advocacy.

This unit is also important for experienced advocates to complete as it will refresh and revisit core principles all advocates need to base their practice on.

"I have been doing advocacy for over 10 years and reckon I have a good understanding of what advocacy is. But I recently attended some basic training and was shocked at how much I came away with, like confidentiality for instance, and it was great to revisit core principles. I feel much more in tune with fundamental principles now."
