Modules Available

You will achieve a Certificate in Independent Advocacy if you complete all four Core modules (in any order) plus one Specialist module of your choice. To achieve a Diploma in Independent Advocacy you must complete the four Core modules, the IMCA Specialist module and the IMCA DOLS Specialist module.

These core modules are offered at Level 3 and are titled:

Fast Track - Four Core Modules in Three Days

The Purpose and Principles of Independent Advocacy (2 taught days)

Providing Effective Independent Advocacy Support (2 taught days)

Maintaining the Advocacy Relationship (2 taught days)

Understanding and Responding to the Needs of Different Advocacy Groups (2 taught days)

To complete each core module you will need to attend a 2 day taught course and gather the evidence to demonstrate you have developed the necessary skills and knowledge. The core modules can also be taken alone as Certificates of Unit Credit (CUC).

The specialist modules are offered at Level 4 and are titled:

Conversion Course - Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (1 taught day)

Conversion Course - Providing IMCA: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (1 taught day)

Providing Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2 taught days)

Conversion Course - Independent Mental Health Advocacy (1 taught day)

Conversion Course - IMHA/IMCA/DOLS (1 taught day)

Independent Advocacy Management (4 taught days)

Providing Independent Advocacy to Adults (4 taught days)

Providing Independent Advocacy to Children and Young People (4 taught days)

Providing Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (4 taught days)

Providing Independent Mental Health Advocacy (4 taught days)
